Hi All,
Not sure if you all got this, I know this was a topic that was of interest to several people for running their workshops, so it might be of interest to some of you to sign up. We're still going to have our in-house sessions, but it might be interesting to look what else is out there,
Amanda

Dear
all,
The
Faculty will be running a number of High Performance
Computing workshops over the next few months.
The
goal of this workshop is to give users solid foundations for
high performance Computing (HPC) usage in a local cluster
and cloud services. The training uses hands-on exercises on
modern HPC systems, such as jobs of MPI or OpenMP software
on shared memory nodes, CUDA software for graphics
co-processors (GPUs), and MPI models for distributed memory
systems.
The
HPC training covers ideas for three major classes of
machines: for sequential machines with memory hierarchies
(e.g., cache), for multicore shared memory machines and for
distributed memory machines like clusters and
supercomputers, via network models.
The
practical aspect of this course involves setting up scripts
for running software and compiling software with different
flags on real parallel and distributed systems, so users
can check whether what appears to work well in theory also
translates into practice. Emphasis will be given in
teaching good practises of contacting research using
computational experiments in HPC clusters.
The
course will cover:
-Parallelism
paradigms & HPC hardware;
-Job
Scheduling, queuing system (SGE), fair usage and charging;
-Scientific
software, compilation of software, validation, good
practises of research;
-Introduction
to Rosalind, use of the HPC and Openstack part;
-Alternative
facilities and the cloud;
Prerequisites:
Good knowledge of Linux
Dates,
times & locations:
Wednesday
30 November 2016 - 14:00 - 17:30 in K3.16
Wednesday
1 March 2017 - 14:00 - 17:30 in K4U.13
Wednesday
