Liana - thanks for taking the lead on
this :).
All - after doing battle with the UK Border Agency*, Fares Alaboud
has made it back to the UK to join the group as a PhD student.
Some of you might know Fares from his former role as the president
of KCL Tech, where he organised HackKing's and various other large
events. In the hope that we can be slightly more organised
ourselves, he's going to manage the list of who's speaking each
week at the planning group meetings.
Fares's PhD is on using planning for medication dose regimes for
complex patients. For those who think in terms of the back-end,
pharmacokinetics are inherently non-linear, and have interesting
interactions, so it's going to be a challenging problem to solve,
and also to model. Fares's second supervisor is Sanjay, who works
with folk from the health schools, and will help provide guidance
on the domain side of things, to complement the planning knowledge
we have ourselves. Once ICAPS is passed, it would be good for
those of us who work on continuous numeric planning (e.g. Wiktor)
to give Fares a few pointers on what he should read, and what he
should be wary of.
Due to there being no free desks on S6, Fares is currently hidden
away somewhere on K4L. Some students are due to graduate from S6
soon, so please help us claim him some territory. Flags optional.
Andrew
