Hi all, I'd like to propose an experiment for the next planning meeting (Wednesday Dec 7th) : let's work together on a grant proposal! The idea of the project is the one that came out last week, i.e., to have a service, like Google Maps, that takes into account initial and final position of each vehicle and then send different route recommendations to different groups of drivers, in order to balance (and then reduce) the traffic. At the moment, instead, Google maps send the route recommendation to each driver as if he/she was the only driver taking that route. Working on a grant proposal means to think at the following items: -Project background: the current services, and the disciplines involved in the project (Planning of course! :) -Project goals: what are the contributions of the project? -How the project will achieve its goals: what are the different steps of the project (problem specification, data collection, planning algorithms, etc.) -Project impact: why would this be an important project? Why should the project be funded? -National Importance: why is this project important for the UK? (the grant will likely be submitted to EPSRC, so it's important to state the relevance of this project for the UK) I'd like to ask you to think about these items and come to the meeting with some ideas. We'll then brainstorm on each item for 10 minutes. I think it's also a good exercise for each one of us, as grant writing is something that we will all have to do if we want to work in the academia!!
